“The Magic of the Unicorn”
As we return from the Yearly Gem Mineral show in Colorado, Rocky Mts. (which is a whole story in itself) to our home in the Smokey Mts. of Tennessee, there is one thing that has become very clear, the world needs Magic with a capital ‘M”. We drove this year and I never prayed so hard, calling in everything Holy almost speaking in tongues a few times! Many have become very mustang like, as they buck this past year’s restrictions, displaying that very dangerously on the road. It truly is a mess energetically and needs our help. Everything has lost its sparkle, magic and hopefulness, like plants covered during an early frost people on this crystal buying trip seemed to be covered, withdrawn and compacted in spirit not extending themselves, finding that very act exhausting.
As I unpack my new crystals the ‘spirit of the unicorn’ bounced forward greeting me in its soft purity and magic, Fueling my heart with a smile into a place of receiving the Magic that is so needed during 2020.
Unicorns are mythical creatures that have special magical powers to grant the wishes of those who are pure of heart. These white smooth beauties with their beautiful enchanted horn are elusive. Hiding in woodlands all around the world Unicorns can only be seen by those pure of heart and soul, those would never reveal their location to the outside world. The Unicorns charmed horn is called the ‘alicorn’. In medieval times, it was believed that the Unicorn horn could protect against illness and had the power to dissolve poison. The horn is like a magic wand, pouring out divine energy. Wherever the Unicorn directs this light, healing takes place. Unicorns are strongly associated with the feminine and appear as the divine power that nurtures all living things. it is said that only a virgin can catch a unicorn. Unicorns have been associated with the Moon another sign of the divine feminine energy.
The unicorn summons qualities like innocence, divine feminine energy, and magic. The unicorn captivates the imagination, Its symbolic meaning is still wrapped in mystery to this day.The first known depiction of a unicorn was found in the Lascaux Caves of France dating around 15,000 BCE. The earliest record of unicorns belongs to Greek historian Ctesias In the 5th century BCE. he wrote that the beast had a white body, purple head, blue eyes, and a multicolored horn. Genghis Khan reportedly decided not to conquer India after meeting a unicorn, which bowed down to him; he viewed it as a sign from his dead father and turned his army back.
The King James Version of the Old Testament contains nine references to unicorns. In about 300 BC, scholars translating the Old Testament from Hebrew into Greek concluded that the Hebrew term re’em referred to a unicorn. Unicorns are mentioned in the bible. Early unicorns can be found on the ancient seals of Babylonia. The unicorn is most famously associated with Scotland’s King James III in the 1400s. He issued two gold coins that were known as the unicorn and the half-unicorn. More than 2,000 years ago, Greek travelers told tales of unicorns living in far-off lands. Many have long considered the unicorn to be a symbol for Christ. The unicorn’s placing his head in the lap of the young maiden evokes the image of baby Jesus lying in the lap of the Virgin Mary.
‘Alicorn’ isn’t just the name for a unicorn’s horn. It’s also the name for a “winged horse with one horn”w. The unicorn is the official animal of Scotland. Its magic is celebrated on National Unicorn Day April 9. The love by the scots for this magical creature goes way back. Scotland’s King James III issued a number of coins depicting unicorns from 1460-1488. The unicorn was originally portrayed as a kind and loving creature that fed on magical grasses, walked on water and flew. It also had the ability to walk on grass without crushing it. Its image was carved on gravestones to assist the dead to heaven and to ward off evil spirits.
