‘A ROOK of TIME’ Stones
‘Rooks have the ability to go back in time to heal what hurts in the Present’
Rook is the official name of the tower-shaped chess piece; however “castle” is the old-fashioned term used to describe that same chess piece. The Rook Piece on the board originally represented a chariot in its original Persian form and later a fortress. No matter what you call it this power piece moves horizontally or vertically for any number of empty squares. When chess moved into Europe, the Persian, armored chariot (rook) was misinterpreted as the Italian rocca (fortress), transforming its design and name into a castle tower.
The Rook (aka bird) represents deep intelligence, profound transformation and the power of common support. Closely linked to the corvid family (crows/ravens), the rook symbolizes the ability to naturally navigate change, understand ones connection to their ancestor’s, and bridge many different worlds. Rooks are seen as symbols of alchemy, and magic, capable of turning the ‘ordinary into the extraordinary’. They guide us through significant life changes and personal evolution.
Rooks live in close-knit communities called “rookeries.” As a spiritual totem, they emphasize the importance of family, friendship, and relying on a supportive tribe. They are associated with ancestral wisdom and acting as protectors of the voids, providing a bridge to the spirit worlds. The rook represents the ability to observe both ‘the inner and outer world’, encouraging self-reflection and a deeper understanding of life’s mysteries. Rooks possess high intelligence and problem-solving abilities. They encourage us to use cleverness and strategic thinking to overcome obstacles. They are viewed as messengers of the gods (such as Zeus in Greek mythology) and often associated with the mysteries and secrets of life. Rooks are not bad omens, rather, they represent the natural evolution and letting go of the past to embrace to future, since you cannot hold both at the same time!
Moss agate symbolizes new beginnings, a deep & healing earth connection, and steady personal progress. It features green dendritic inclusions that mimic forest landscapes, offering a calming energy that roots you in the present moment. Moss agate deepens your bond with the earth, plants, and natural cycles of time. It steadies scattered or frantic energy with a slow, patient kind vibrational healing.
Classic moss agate is green with mossy inclusions ranging from pale sage to deep forest green. It is this green that gives the stone it’s earthy, growing symbolism. Blue moss agate is a beautiful variation, where the inclusions take on cool blue and blue-green tones. It keeps all the meanings of moss agate but adds a sense of calm, communication, and tranquility. Green moss agate feels healing, grounding and earthy, blue moss agate feels serene, comforting and soothing.

It’s said European farmers once used to hang moss agate from trees and around the horns of oxen when plowing to encourage successful harvests.
