SOBEK HEALING STONES

Crocodile Jasper

When we were in Egypt on the Nile in the Temple of Sobek (next to Horus the Elder’s temple; he was a divine healer/ physician) it was a  most powerful experience. On the walls of his temple are some very interesting highly advanced medical devices etched thru time, not to be disputed with. The god Sobek, which was depicted as a crocodile or a man with the head of a crocodile was a powerful deity; in Egyptian creation myths, it was Sobek who first came out of the waters of chaos to create the world. As a creator god, he was also linked to the sun god RA. Sobek himself was a very intimating character but he served a great purpose. He allowed one to be their own healer.

Sobek  the ancient god of crocodiles was first mentioned in the Pyramid texts. Sobek was the god of the Nile who brought fertility to the land. As the "Lord of the Waters" he was thought to have risen from the primeval waters to create the world and made the Nile from his sweat.  Egyptians who worked or traveled on the Nile prayed to Sobek, to protect them from being attacked by crocodiles.

In some places a tame crocodile was worshiped as the earthly embodiment of Sobek himself. Ancient Egyptians would keep crocodiles in pools and temples. They ornamented the crocodiles with jewels in honor of their beloved god, Sobek. The people of ancient Egypt worshiped Sobek in order to appease him, the crocodiles, and to insure the fertility of their people and crops.

It has been known for some time that crocodiles heal serious injuries rapidly and almost without infection. More recently, tests showed alligator blood has strong antibacterial powers. there was a wealth of anecdotal evidence suggesting that alligators and crocodiles are resistant to bacterial infection.

Alligators and crocodiles, like humans, have a natural defense system against invading bacteria, viruses and fungi, which involves a group of proteins called the complement system. When Dr Merchant exposed the alligator blood to pathogens such as HIV, West Nile Virus and E Coli, it started to kill them.

Crocodile teaches us that it is possible to live a fulfilling life. Crocodile can teach us many lessons, one is to value our strength, and consider building upon our resources of personal power.  To Be tenacious when times are hard, helping us to survive until we can thrive. Crocodile teaches us how to balance energies. They are protected by the sun, but also nourished in the murky waters where they  hide. Their ability to revive on a daily basis is also a symbol of rebirth. Crocodile is an animal of patience and inner timing. It can teach us that if we attempt to reap early, or procrastinate, we can lose opportunities to nourish our bodies and our spirits.

The Crocodile is the primal mother and  keeper of knowledge. They have great wisdom from having survived two-hundred million years on Earth.   They  represent birth and re-birth.  When crocodile energy appears, we should watch over and protect the things we have given birth to for at least a 4 month period. When young crocodiles begin to develop within the eggs, they begin to squeak. The mother hears them, answers them, and helps them to hatch. She then assists them to the water, carrying them in her mouth. If crocodile has appeared, it is time to heed our primal instincts or we may miss the calls of new creative opportunities.

It is a stone that works slowly, providing constant, slow, deliberate energy, especially good in time of change without the need for chaos or total upheaval.  A good stone for working with shy or timid people who need change. great for people in counseling or therapy, who want to overcome addictions or compulsive behavior.  Jasper was once considered a Warriors Stone, so it knows of loyalty, inner strength, and standing up for what you believe in.  A power stone for those who stand for justice and fair play, especially useful for those whose job it is rectify unjust situations.  Help to give you courage in preparation for conflict, either physical or emotional.
